  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health mandates health screenings at certain grade levels.

Children ENTERING SCHOOL (at Kindergarten or 1st Grade) need the following examinations:

    Physical examination and Dental examination

Children ENTERING THIRD GRADE need a Dental examination

Students transferring from another PA school district or from out of state may need to have a physical and dental examination if their health records are not forwarded from the previous school district.

It is recommended that your child’s doctor and dentist perform the required examinations since they can provide the appropriate treatment and follow-up. School examinations will be offered, but are screenings only and should not replace regular examinations by your child’s doctor and dentist.

Both physical and dental examinations are acceptable if done no sooner than one year prior to the beginning of the school term your child will be entering.

Forms for your family physician and dentist to complete can be found in the Health Forms section.

The School Nurses do the following mandated health screenings for elementary students:

    • Vision screening, including near and far vision, grades K - 5
    • Growth screening, including height & weight and BMI (Body Mass Index), grades K - 5
    • Hearing screening, grades K - 3

You will be notified by the School Nurses if any abnormalities are found during the health screenings.
