    Beginning Band Checklist

    My Student has:

    1. An instrument in good playing condition (please bring in to school for Mrs. Freeman to check)
    2. The lesson book, called Essential Elements, Book One (for your instrument)
    3. A music stand for at home practice
    4. Basic cleaning/maintenance supplies:
      1. Flute: Polishing cloth, swab rag, cleaning rod
      2. Oboe: Medium Hard Emerald Cane Oboe Reed, swab rag, cork grease
      3. Clarinet: Box of Reeds (Rico Clarinet #2 1/2), swab rag, cork grease
      4. Alto Saxophone: Box of Reeds (Rico Sax #2 1/2), swab rag, cork grease
      5. Trumpet: Valve oil, tuning slide grease, polishing cloth
      6. Trombone: Slide oil, tuning slide grease, polishing cloth
      7. Baritone: Valve oil, tuning slide grease, polishing cloth
      8. Snare Drum: A pair of snare drum sticks size 2B or SD1.  A pair of M-4 Bell mallets or equivalent.

    If you decide to purchase your own instrument please contact Mrs. Freeman before doing so. When searching for an instrument please search for the brands and models below:

    Flute: Gemeinhardt 22SP. Also acceptable are Armstrong, Artley, Selmer and Yamaha.
    Clarinet: Selmer 1401.  Also acceptable are Vito, Leblanc, Buffett, Yamaha, Artley, and Armstrong.
    Saxophone: Yamaha YAS-23.  This is by FAR the best Alto Sax for beginning band students. Also acceptable Selmer, Bundy or Yanagisawa
    Oboe: Contact Mrs. Freeman
    Trumpet: Yamaha YTR-2320. Also acceptable are Bach, Holton, Conn, or King.
    Trombone: Bach TB-300.  Also acceptable are Yamaha, Holton, Conn, or King.
    Baritone: Contact Mrs. Freeman
    Percussion: Students will need to purchase a Bell Kit or Snare Drum Kit.  The Bell Kit will include a practice set of bells and a snare drum practice pad with sticks for each.  CB, Ludwig, or Pearl are good brands. The Drum Kit will include a snare drum, drum stand, drum cover pad and sticks. (Any Music store listed below have this available through the rental program).
