  • Plimoth Plantation and The First Thanksgiving

    In 1620, a group of Pilgrims began a voyage from England that was more than 3,000 miles long and troubled with strong autumn storms.  What was it like for these people aboard the ship?  How did they survive once they arrived in the New World?  Let's take a tour and find out!

    Student Instructions:

    Your Mission:

    1. Watch the webcast of "Tour the Pilgrim Village" to begin your journey and understand the history of 17th century colonial life.
    2. Click on the tab "Voyage on the Mayflower" to begin your self-guided tour of the ship and its voyage. Click on "Take the Journey" and "Tour the Ship". As you go along, answer the questions on your worksheet about the Mayflower.
    3. Click on the tab "Daily Life" to begin your self-guided tour of daily life for the pilgrims and the Wampanoag. Visit the sections about housing, clothes, food, chores, school, and games. Answer the questions on your worksheet.
    4. When you're finished, read "Thanksgiving on Thursday" by Mary Pope Osborne. Think about Think about the life the Pilgrams had coming to this country and surviving here. Answer the reflection questions on your reflections worksheet.
