5th Grade Virtual Field Trips

  • Ellis Island

Did you know that between 1892 and 1954, more than 12 million immigrants made their first stop in coming to America at the Ellis Island Immigration Station?  Amazing!  Did you also know that more than 40 percent of Americans can trace their family history back to Ellis Island?  Maybe that includes your family, too!  Let's take a tour!

    Student Instructions:

    Your Mission:

    1. Watch the webcast of Ellis Island to begin your journey and understand the history of the island.
    2. Explore Ellis Island by taking a self-guided tour at Scholastic's Ellis Island Virtual Field Trip. As you visit each room, answer the questions on your worksheet about Ellis Island.
    3. When you're finished, read "Dreaming of America: An Ellis Island Story" by Eve Bunting. Think about Annie's experience in the story and of your own tour. Answer the reflection questions on your reflections worksheet.
